Our Designer Outlet concept is as simple as it is effective: sell prestigious brands with permanent, large discounts. The figures speak for themselves. It's not surprising that we're Europe's leaders, and that we're expanding so rapidly.
Our Designer Outlets offer permanent discounts of 30% to 70% off prestigious labels. All merchandise is stock that is excess to the high street or special buys, and is typically sold through stores run by the brands themselves. A vast array of goods is available, from fashion to toys, books to electrical products. Our Designer Outlet concept gives retailers the opportunity to sell this merchandise directly to the public via a branded shop. Thus brand equity is safeguarded, while market share and brand awareness increase.
With over 700 brands featuring in 1,300 stores, we have established a solid relationship with many of the world's best labels in fashion, sportswear, accessories, homewares and cosmetics. These include Armani, Bulgari, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Prada and Roberto Cavalli; Salvatore Ferragamo, Zegna, Benetton, Calvin Klein, Marks & Spencer, Nike, Puma and Tommy Hilfiger, to name but a few.
In total, our Designer Outlets have 350,000mē of gross lettable area. Typically, there are between 80 and 170 stores in a Designer Outlet, and their individual gross lettable area ranges from 15,000mē to 35,000mē. In 2005, McArthurGlen generated over 1.4 billion euros in tenants' sales and provided employment for 10,000 people. More than 135 million people live within a 90-minute drive of a Designer Outlet and they draw over 65 million visitors each year. So far we have opened 15 Designer Outlets across the UK and continental Europe. Some of these are being expanded, two new Outlets are opening over the next eighteen months and more are in development.
