Terroir Champagnes revealed by remarkable winemakers, welcome to the Aube!

Aube is the 2nd largest Champagne producing department (out of five), after the Marne! ... its Champagne appellation vineyards cover 6,500 hectares, and provide one fifth of the production, i.e. a potential of 50 million bottles. To discover this marvellous terroir, you must take the Champagne Tourist Route: From Bar-sur-Aube to Bar-sur-Seine to the Riceys region (which also produces the famous "Riceys rosé"), this route passes through charming towns and villages, where you can enjoy tasting stops in the producers' cellars and numerous visits such as those to the Clairvaux Abbey, the Bayel Crystal Works, Du Côté des Renoir in Essoyes, or the Nigloland leisure park in Dolancourt.

The Champagne's Grands Lacs, consisting of 4 reservoirs, have become a real tourist destination with a remarkable and protected biodiversity.

These reservoirs are artificial and were created to minimise flooding in Paris during the 20th century, particularly following the major flooding of the Seine in 1910. The Lac d'Orient, commissioned in 1966, is entirely devoted to swimming and sailing. Motorised activities are practised on Lake Amance, which is one of the two bodies of water forming the Aube reservoir lakes with Lake du Temple. The most important lake is Lac du Der, which was opened in 1974 and is fed by the Marne. With its 4,800 hectares, it is the largest artificial lake in Europe.

Within the Grands Lacs de Champagne, the fauna and flora are remarkable. More than 250 species of birds have already been recorded, including 130 species that breed in the area.

Rest in a 12th century Templar mansion at the foot of the cathedral.
