Cistern of wishes

Historic cistern becomes a donation magnet

During the renovation and expansion works around the North entrance, the Designer Outlet Ochtrup uncovered an interesting historical finding; a cistern from the treatment plant of a textile dye factory. The dye factory belonged to the textile company of the Laurenz brothers, dating from 1875. The cistern now serves as both a testament to local history and has also been repurposed as a Wish Cistern for charity.

Love, health and prosperity are symbolized by bronze pillars with golden animal heads. The dove represents love, the lion head stands for health and the pig symbolizes prosperity. Donations can be made via openings in each pillar. The money falls onto a turntable at the bottom of the cistern and is emptied on a regular basis.

Since May 2015 the cistern has been emptied 16 times with donations reaching an overall sum of € 146.349,48.

We would like to thank all our guests for their donations!
