The Mugello region in Tuscany is located just about 20 km north of Florence and is very well known for the beauty of its natural landscapes, small towns and villages, Renaissance villas, castles, and traditional events. It is a natural paradise in the heart of Tuscany full of history and tradition. In just a short drive, you can leave the historic city centres of both Florence and Bologna and find cities such as Barberino di Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo, San Piero a Sieve, Scarperia, Firenzuola, Palazzuolo sul Senio, Marradi, Vicchio, and Vaglia. Mugello is crossed by the Sieve River which also passes right through the center of Barberino Designer Outlet.
History has deeply marked this Tuscan territory. The Medici family was originally from this area, and here they built palaces, castles, and convents. In fact, a tour of the Medici Villas is a must when visiting the area. Even though Mugello is rooted in history, it also has a modern side to it with the presence of the Mugello Circuit race track that hosts international motorcycle and car racing events regularly.
A taste of Tuscany
Tuscan cuisine is famous because it uses simple, honest ingredients cultivated right in our territory. One such dish right from the heart of the Mugello is Tortelli Mugellani, a potato filled pasta that is traditionally covered with a meat ragù sauce or simply butter and sage. Do not miss out on tasting a true Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a three-finger high, bone in steak that is cooked very rare to exult the quality of the beef.
Olive oil is another important product for Tuscany. At the incredibly beautiful Villa Campestri Luxury Olive Oil Resort, you can stay in their luxurious hotel or spend an afternoon taking an olive oil sommelier course at their Oleoteca. In late October, early November, you can even help with the olive harvest and see the process of making olive oil first hand.
Things to do
Play a round of golf at the 18-hole course at the exquisite Poggio dei Medici Golf Club. You can take the kids and those young at heart to Parco Avventura il Gigante where you can test your bravery on ropes courses and zip lines. For nature lovers, you won’t want to miss out on taking a hike, bike ride, horseback ride, or a relaxing walk in the Tuscan countryside. During the summer, take a break from the heat with an afternoon at Lake Bilancino. This man-made lake is great for swimming, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and fishing. Café Bahia rents lounge chairs, umbrellas, canoes, paddle boats, and more. There is also a bar and restaurant where you can enjoy a sunset aperitif.
Barberino Designer Outlet is close to all this. A holiday in Tuscany will be unforgettable if paired with a shopping trip in Barberino. With its traditional Tuscan architecture and rolling hills in the background, it will feel as if you’ve never left the countryside to come shopping. Easily accessible from the major attractions of the region, the Centre offers more than 100 stores of the major international brands. Here, you’ll also find important Italian brand names and styles that you won’t easily find at home.
