Arte Charpentier: our architects

Discover the architects behind the project

The Parisian studio is supporting us with the architectural design of the centre. ‘Complexity held in check’ is a major tenet of the team that is working on our project and this is what attracted us to their approach. Architects Nahla Jajo-Legrand and Andrew Hobson share their enthusiasm for McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny in their interview.

The firm, with experience and a passion for complex projects, is our partner in the development of McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny.

Their high standards, shared by over 120 collaborators and 15 nationalities, resonate with the way urban issues are evolving.

Conscious of the environmental impact, each project gives its place meaning by responding specifically to the local, technical, human and cultural issues posed by the urban landscape.

How would you define the design and concept of McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny?

Creating places that are meaningful for people is at the heart of Arte Charpentier's philosophy and at the heart of the design for McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Paris-Giverny.

We've taken a modern approach to the design and atmosphere of this centre, which will offer a one-of-a-kind shopping experience to visitors of all ages and cultures.

Guests will be able to admire magnificent works of art and modern sculptures, as well as spectacular vertical gardens. The Artisans House, adjoining major brand shops, will be a unique opportunity to combine shopping with the discovery of art pieces created by the most talented French craftspeople.

McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny will offer a rich and welcoming experience for its visitors. As well as access to more than 100 major brands, it will offer several dining areas with outdoor seating as well as play areas. Much more than a simple display of modern architecture, McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny will be a destination and showcase the most sought-after French and international designer brands.

There's nothing more exciting and stimulating than placemaking, where architecture and landscape dramatically come together to create a rich personal experience.

How did the fact you're creating a project in the heart of Normandy, near Monet's gardens, influence your approach?

The Normandy countryside is completely unique, which is why we felt a great need to ensure that the centre successfully blends into the local woodland and pastures. The design is simple and elegant and fits in with the gently rolling landscape.

Monet's garden in Giverny is certainly a big attraction for everyone visiting the region, and also reminds us as designers of how much we can learn from nature. Materials and colour, light and shade, green spaces and water features are all elements that are woven into our design.

Much more than a simple display of modern architecture, McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny will be a destination and showcase the most sought-after French and international designer brands.

What inspires you from day to day?

Architect firms are often associated with designing buildings and special monuments. However, there's nothing more exciting and stimulating than placemaking, where architecture and landscape dramatically come together to create a rich personal experience.

Our main concern is people's wellbeing and designing thoughtful architecture which will invigorate them culturally and socially, while also having a positive impct on the environment.
