Celebrating 25 Years of JOY
at East Midlands Designer Outlet
This month we are celebrating 25 years of JOY at East Midlands Designer Outlet! Shop over 65 of your favourite designer brands, say hello to the new brands joining us and dine at one of our 12 cafes or restaurants!
East Midlands Designer Outlet opened its doors in October 1998, but its history goes even further back.
The history of the community can still be found at the centre today. The East Midlands area was widely known as a coal mining community, and te outlet was built on the site of the former South Normanton Collier, closed in 1952 and then Winterbank NCB Transport Deport, which closed in 1988. On 15th February 2022 a new memorial plaque and informational signage board were installed at the centre to commemorate and remember the eight men who sadley lost their lives at South Normanton Colliery in 1937.
Over the 25 years we have welcomed over 60 million guests. Looking back over the years, East Midlands Designer Outlet has not only been a joyous shopping destination, but a valuable part of the local community. There’s been so much history made over the years and we can’t wait to see what the next 25 years have in store!
Looking Forward...
Looking ahead at the future of the Centre, this year marked the beginning of the Modernisation Project, ushering in a new era of shopping with a multi-million-pound investment in the area. A number of new brands are confirmed to join the East Midlands Designer Outlet towards the end of the year, including luxury lifestyle brand Rituals.
Adidas will also relocate and significantly upsize its unit at the Designer Outlet as part of the £8 million modernisation work taking place at the Centre over the next two years. It follows the announcement in January that Nike would double its footprint and become the sportswear giant’s biggest outlet in the McArthurGlen portfolio in the UK opening their brand new doors at the end of October 2023.
