Self-described as a ‘fashion blogger from up North living in London’, Lizzy Hadfield has earned a dedicated following for her signature ‘smasual’ style. Documenting her everyday outfits in street-style shots on her Instagram and blog, her eye for casual and classic pieces has won her a dedicated following.
As our MGInsider, Lizzy was on-hand this London Fashion Week for McArthurGlen to capture the must-have looks on the streets as well as the shows of some of the best British designers including Preen, Osman and Henry Holland. Read all about it, plus Lizzy’s life as an influencer in our exclusive interview.
"First and foremost I get to create content and work creatively, which is a dream come true."
What do you think will be the must-have piece of clothing or accessory for this season?
Oh this is a hard one! For me I think it's going to be a gorgeous trench coat, something very classic with gorgeous details that I can buy now and wear for years to come!
Which trend will you be investing in for AW19?
Fluid Utility for sure - I love the nod to tailoring in there, and I never ever regret spending money on tailoring as it's such a big part of my wardrobe!
What have you enjoyed most about this year’s LFW?
The street style! It felt more inspiring and ever before, and I love seeing pieces I can wear now, rather than having to wait for what’s on the runway - I can be too impatient for that!
When did you start your blog ‘shot from my street’?
Almost six years ago now - that time has flown! I was studying History of Art at Leeds Uni at the time.
Is it your full-time job now? If so how long have you been doing it full-time?
It is, and also my dream job! I have been doing this full time for over three years now!
What’s the best part of being an ‘influencer’?
Being my own boss, being able to work all over the world, the incredible people I get to meet - I don't love the term 'influencer' because it's a byproduct of what I do, first and foremost I get to create content and work creatively, which is a dream come true.
What’s the most challenging?
Keeping up the inspiration, you don't really get chance to step back, so being constantly inspired can be hard (if not impossible), fashion week does help a lot with this!
Talk us through a typical day for you!
If I am working at home then I tend to start early, around 7:30, with a cup of tea in hand! I always start with emails, finishing off the blog post for that day, before moving onto shooting and content creation. Sometimes I have meetings, often I am travelling too, so it's always changing! The most consistent thing for me will be going for a walk, which is a huge part of staying inspired for me, I try to walk at least an hour a day!
What’s your proudest achievement so far?
Probably moving to London and living and working on my own, it's the happiest I have ever been and a happiness I create and maintain myself, that is a very nice feeling!!
If you hadn’t have been an influencer what else would you be doing?
Who knows! I would have probably done a masters and maybe gone into curation as I did love my degree, but then I think my love for fashion would have always been calling my name!
Who are you favourite people to follow?
My best friend Lindsey Holland (@ropesofholland), Joanna Halpin and the inspiration account @c_l_o
