Get to know Myriem Nieres-Tavernier

General Manager of McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny.

We will open McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny in less than one year’s time, so now is the perfect opportunity to introduce you to our General Manager, Myriem Nieres-Tavernier.

Myriem Nieres-Tavernier

Myriem, to start this interview, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Myriem Nieres-Tavernier and I joined McArthurGlen Group as General Manager, overseeing the construction of McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny Designer Outlet.
I was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and grew up there before moving to Paris for my studies at HEC when I was 17. I haven't left the capital since, so you could say that I have become a true Parisian by adoption.
I am now married and mother of two teenagers who help me to stay up to date on the trendy brands popular among middle and high school students!

Can you tell us more about your background?

I have more than 20 years’ experience in retail and luxury and have been lucky enough to work across several different product categories – from cosmetics with Sephora and Coty to jewellery with Tiffany and Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as accessories at Louis Vuitton.
I’ve also been able to discover different aspects of retail in both very operational roles, as Manager of the Louis Vuitton store in Saint Germain des Près, and a more strategic remit as International Retail Director at Van Cleef & Arpels and Coty.

Myriem, the Outlet world is new to you, what was your motivation to join McArthurGlen group?

In whatever position I have held, customer experience and satisfaction have always been at the heart of my motivation. Whether it's a guest who comes to buy a 12.90€ lipstick, or a couple set to splash more than a million euros for a diamond necklace, my obsession has always been offering memorable experiences. The impression left on a guest when they leave a store should be exactly the same regardless of how much they spend.
Taking on the management of a project as ambitious as McArthurGlen Paris-Giverny, the first and only luxury Outlet destination serving the fashionable catchment west of Paris, is a challenge that I already relish.
The vision of McArthurGlen, to provide a memorable shopping experience to all our visitors, strongly resonates with me and I always appreciated the magic of our Designer Outlets whenever I had the opportunity to visit as a guest. The warmth of a McArthurGlen welcome certainly makes an impact, and combined with excellent attention to detail and enhanced services, each visit to one of our centres provides an exceptional day out for all the family.
I’ve been able to work on the project from very early on, witnessing with great enthusiasm each stage of construction to date. My role at Paris-Giverny follows on nicely from past positions, where I was involved in the construction of both Louis Vuitton and Tiffany’s flagship stores on the Champs Elysées, and then Van Cleef & Arpels in Hong Kong. However, this is a particularly significant moment for me, with a project of this magnitude providing inspiring new learnings and sources of discovery. I am involved in all aspects of managing the centre - from relations with institutions to appointments with brands, including site meetings with the architectural firm, I love it!

What's the most emotional moment you've had from the project so far?

I have two, very different moments that illustrate the range of scenarios you need to consider when opening a centre:

- The Job Fair we organised last November where we presented the project to the residents of the region and explained the training and employment opportunities to come. Despite the difficulties we faced surrounding covid-19, seeing over 300 people attending this presentation made me realise both the impact of our project on the region and the strength of our proposition.

- The design of the Artisan’s Village by Mathieu Lehanneur. Until we saw Mathieu’s vision come to life in his artwork, the idea of this space was still conceptual. We were all aligned on the intention and the ambition of the project but did not yet imagine how it could translate into these two expansive buildings. Mathieu's genius made it possible to give shape to our ambition through a design that merges three worlds that we wanted to bring together: experience, education and retail.

Finally, what are you most looking forward to – apart from the opening?

The handover of the units to our brand partners and the start of the shopfitting!
