Every day is coat day

Lightweight parkas and classic trenches will help him transition seamlessly from sunny afternoons to autumnal evenings.

Transitional coats
Transitional coats for him are taking on a utilitarian feel for AW20 with parkas and bombers both debuted on the runways of Paul Smith, Valentino and Fendi. Seek out styles in earthy colours like khaki, mineral blue and black, which pair effortlessly with brighter hues, and opt for lengths no longer than thigh-height to tie in with this season’s Hyper-Functional trend.

Meanwhile, everyone’s favourite trans-season go-to (the timeless trench) takes on a 70s vibe for autumn/winter with double breasted cuts, corduroy and velvet styles all showcased for AW20. While the latter is an eveningwear hero this season, corduroy trenches offer a more versatile look that’s both weekend and workwear friendly. Look for these in Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein sticking to caramel and biscuit tones to emphasise the retro mood.

Winter coats
Shearling collars, faux fur and long-line wool coats are everything he needs to stay stylish and stave off the cold this wintertime. Opt for checked patterns, as seen as Todd Snyder and Y Project, or plump for warm dessert hues in block colours. Both options are a key staple of the American Western trend for AW20 menswear, with a shearling collar a hero detail to complete the look.

Elsewhere, puffer jackets – an icon of the 90s – make a long awaited return this season with Paul Smith among the designers who showcased the nostalgic style during Men’s Fashion Week. Long-line puffers are what you want to aim for, so forgo waist-skimming lengths and look for full height styles at the likes of Guess and Ted Baker sidestepping neon colours in favour of black this time around.
