Designer Outlets for High-End Itineraries: When the Destination Is the Point, Not the Errand

Clients on a high-end European itinerary do not ask whether a designer outlet has good prices. They ask whether it is a destination rather than a mall — whether the half-day it takes is a half-day they would choose again. That question is answerable. A centre holds up in an upscale itinerary when the architecture and the route through it are worth walking, when the dining is somewhere you would choose rather than a place to refuel, and when the hour of the visit changes the experience. Get those three right and the outlet reads as a stop the itinerary was built around; get them wrong and it reads as an errand, however good the brands are.
