Serravalle and its territory

Art and nature in “Monferrato”

Inaugurated in 2000, Serravalle was the first Designer Outlet in Italy and is currently the largest in Europe. Easily accessible from Milan, Turin and Genoa, the Center lays in the heart of the upper Monferrato, where Piedmont meets Liguria, surrounded by the gentle hills where Gavi wine is produced. In this ancient and lavish area, old traditions are being brought back to life through rural culinary culture. Masterful blends from Piedmont combine with the scents from the Ligurian sea to create new exciting flavors and unexpected tastes.

What to do Serravalle bike

What to do

A few minutes from Serravalle Designer Outlet lays the archaeological area of "Libarna" an ancient Roman city born in the second century BC.  along the Via Postumia connecting Genoa to Aquileia; thanks to its strategic position it has been an important center for commercial exchanges from the Ligurian Sea to the plains.

For lovers of art and architecture, the Gavi Fortress is a must-seen destination. The ancient fortress stands out as a bulwark of the territory and once you reach the Fort, the view is lost among beautiful landscapes with the Apennine as a background.

It is worth indulging a few hours strolling along the historic center of the city of Novi Ligure, inhabited by Genoese nobles for several centuries. Hence the tradition of enriching the facades according to the architectural canons common in Liguria between XVI th and XVII th century.

For green tourism lovers, we suggest the Capanne di Marcarolo Park, and the hiking paths of Borbera Valley where the highest peaks and massive walls of rocks of the Apennines are located.

Cycling Enthusiasts should not miss a ride on the footprints of Fausto Coppi, the legendary champion whose history is told at Casa Coppi in Castellania and in the Museum of Novi Ligure where he was born and lived out his life. This is the largest cycling exhibition in Italy.

Piedmont Serravalle Food and Wine

In the lands of Gavi between wine and typical products

A step away from Serravalle Designer Outlet, you can find yourself in the heart of the splendid hills of Gavi, now famous all over the world for the production of the homonymous the great White. Here the landscape is designed by the extensive Cortese vineyards, whose soil breathes the sea wind. Passing through the streets that connect the 11 municipalities of the Gavi Docg Denomination, it is possible to organize visits and tastings at historical and modern cellars of the Producers of the Gavi.

The presence of this great White also dominates the culinary tradition that lives on in a balanced synthesis and contemporary reinterpretation of the most authentic dishes, such as: ravioli (with white or red wine), corzetti, the fragrant risottos (blended with Gavi wine of course, but also in the typical variant with flowers), the farinatas and the focaccias breads, the renowned hazelnut chocolate and the widest offer of cheese and meats from local farmers.

Throughout the territory it is possible to embark on a sensory journey among restaurants, wineries and historic shops, who stand as guardians of the old traditions and to satisfy the most sophisticated palate.

Where to stay

Among the sinuous hills that host the Cortese DOCG vineyards, close to Serravalle Designer Outlet, you can find historical residences, small boutique hotels, golf resorts, informal and family-run farmhouses and well-kept Bed & Breakfasts.

The Locanda La Raia, once a post office for travelers, is today a delightful boutique hotel with only twelve rooms, nestled among the vineyards, pastures and woods of the homonymous biodynamic farm.

Close to the Outlet, surrounded by a lush garden, the Relais Villa Pomela is an elegant charming house dating back to the 18th century, while the Serravalle Golf Hotel is a resort with a familiar and informal atmosphere.

For Golf enthusiasts, we suggest Villa Carolina, a magnificent resort surrounded by greenery, boasting two 18-hole courses, and Villa La Bollina nestled in park of the Serravalle Golf Club (9 + 3 holes) and featuring 12 elegant and comfortable rooms and suites.

The Piedmont countryside is the backdrop to delightful farmhouses and country resorts, such as Il Fiorile featuring a renowned restaurant by Chef Massimo Martina, or Tenuta La Marchesa, an old renovated farmhouse with swimming pool, agritourism restaurant, in the quietness of the hills of Gavi.
