SEASONAL STRIPES

One of our favourite garments from all of the Spring/Summer trends has to be the striped trouser, which forms the centre of a much bigger stripy theme this season. From multi-coloured vertical stripes, to subtle pinstripes, stripy trousers were on the march, with baggy pyjama-like styles leading the way at Scotch and Soda and Tommy Hilfiger. Casual stripy two-pieces are a great casual alternative to the suit, or switch the trend up with bold horizontal stripes on over-sized long-sleeved tees or slouchy v-neck sweaters. A classic Breton tee or a short-sleeve striped bowling shirt are easy ways to jump on the trend, paired with some loose neutral chinos, or pale pinstripe trousers. Don’t be afraid to mix up stripes, just keep the palette similar and you’ll be in line for compliments.

ACCESSORIES
From classic summer sandals and refined minimalist jewellery to a statement bag to pull the look together, these are the perfect accessories for this summer’s stripe trend.

DENIM

DENIM
Urban cowboys are riding into town this summer, dressed head-to-toe in some of the best denim we’ve seen in a long time. From Dolce & Gabbana to Bianca Saunders, double denim ruled the runways, with a leaning towards dark selvedge trucker jackets, embellished jeans, and a tonne of distressed details and interesting acid dyes. Dark navy and black truckers are a hit (and timeless too) so check out Lee & Wrangler and G-Star for those, but if you’re more of a stonewashed guy then the likes of Levi's and Jack & Jones have plenty to offer this season. Look for interesting silhouettes such as baggy jeans, denim shorts, or oversized denim shirts, and pair them with the humble white tee and sneakers for an effortless urban edge.

DOPAMINE

Wallflowers should look away now, because one of the biggest trends of the season will make your eyes pop. Welcome to the summer of neon, where brands such as Givenchy, MSGM, and Vetements must have thrown a kaleidoscope at their respective mood boards. Acid green, dahlia pink, and volume-up violet are just some of the bold tones lighting up wardrobes. We love the block colour neon tailoring and eveningwear of Superdry and Lyle & Scott, but if being suited in fruit pastel tones is too much, add a neon tee, sweat or pair of shorts to your casual fits to boost your day-glow. Don’t be shy with clashing tones either. The runways were full of fun contrasts, graphic prints, and bold accessories.

PREP SCHOOL

Preppy menswear is never not in style, but this season it was presented with a creative makeover, with traditional collegiate garms such as rugby shirts, Oxford cloth button-downs, and rowing blazers, getting a whole new look. The secret is in the styling: go for oversized OCBDs, with extra baggy check shorts, finished with a loose-fit varsity cardigan. Baggy chinos by the likes of Pure White. Make great partners for the multi-coloured blazers at Marc O'Polo. Otherwise, a striped rugby shirt by Hugo Boss can be styled with tailored check shorts and hi-tops for a modern twist of genres. Mix your plaids with your stripes and stick to soft pastel tones to blend everything together. Too cool for school.

SUMMER SUITS
We say ‘suits’, you say ‘office’. Well, that used to be the case but the tailoring class of 2023 is giving the 9-5 a wide berth because the suits on display at Giorgio Armani, Etudes, AMI, and many others were all about sophisticated leisure. Super relaxed, unstructured cuts in pastel tones, styled with a simple tee, are the flavours of a chic summer. We’re fans of the loose double-breasted styles at The Society Shop and Gentiluomo, while the baggy neutral tailored trousers by Cavallaro are a must, whether you wear them as part of a suit, or as separates. Cotton and linen fabrics are best to keep your cool in, and style the whole look down with a deep v-neck tee or a grandad collar shirt.

ACCESSORIES
The loose relaxed shapes of the tailoring will do most of the talking, but you can still dial up the volume of your summer suits with these hand-picked accessories.

V-NECKS
From being sent to the equivalent of fashion Siberia for the best part of a decade, the v-neck knit has finally been welcomed home with open arms. But this isn’t the same square, nerdy knit that left - in its return is a louche, oversized, summer layer that has style and sex appeal in equal measure. From the colourful sleeveless vests at Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein to the plunging necklines at Garcia and No Label, these v-necks are designed to be worn as an outer layer for the world to see. Coming in bright block colours, toned-down neutrals, and preppy stripes, they’re a great way to completely modernise some loose-fit chinos, or linen trousers, and a pair of Birkenstocks. Just keep it light and breezy, and you can’t go wrong.
